Usagi banged into the house after school. Her mother popped up out of
the kitchen. "Usagi, didn't you have an English test today?"
her mother asked. Usagi stopped in her tracks, a large sweat drop forming
on her forehead.
"Yes, mamma," she sighed, digging the crumpled paper out of her
bag. Eyes downcast, she handed it to her mother.
Her mother straightened out the paper slowly, preparing herself for the
worst. Looking at the top of the paper, a big, red A winked at her. "Usagi!"
her mother exclaimed. "How did you do this?"
Usagi beamed at her mother. "Mamochan has helped by writing all of
his letters in English, and Amichan has helped me with translations and
grammar."
"This...this is amazing, Usagi. You never cease to amaze me."
"Mamma, remember at the beginning of the term when you said that if
I got good grades, I could go visit Mamochan in America?"
Her mother smiled. "Ah, so that is the reason for the better grades,
Usagi! Yes, I remember my promise. Your grades have been much better this
term. However, let's wait until final term grades are in before we make
any plans, though."
Usagi began to skip to her room when her mother stopped her. "Usagi,
you have another letter from Mamoru-kun." Her mother smiled. "Time
to put your English to work."
Usagi clutched the letter to her chest and raced upstairs to read it.
Usako, it began. I hope writing these letters has helped your
studies. Usagi smiled, imagining what his reaction would be to her
A. I also hope your grades improve enough that your mother will let
you visit. Our term breaks coincide this year. I can't wait to see you
again. I miss my odongo atama. Usagi smiled again at Mamoru's use of
her nickname. I plan to spend my break in Angel Grove, California. I
hope you can join me, Usako. I'll be anticipating seeing you again. The
letter was signed Your Mamochan, and he had drawn a picture of
a rose at the bottom.
Usagi sighed, dreaming of seeing Mamoru again. Luna jumped up onto the
bed. "I heard your mother talking to you about your test. Congratulations,
Usagi-chan," the little cat said.
"Thank you, Luna. I could hardly believe it when I saw the A on that
test."
"I've always told you that you should study more," Luna admonished.
"I know, Luna, I know," Usagi sighed.
"Don't forget, there's a meeting at Rei-chan's temple this afternoon,"
Luna reminded Usagi.
"Ahhhh!!" Usagi jumped to her feet and ran out the door, exclaiming
"I'm going to be so late!!"
A large sweat drop formed on Luna's head. "Well, at least her grades
are getting better," she sighed.
End of term finally came about. Usagi waited nervously to receive her
report card. "Tsukino Usagi," the teacher finally called. Usagi
slowly walked to the front of the classroom and took the grade report in
a shaky hand. She sank back in her seat, shoving the grades in her book bag
without looking at them. On the way out of the school, Ami, Makoto and
Minako gathered around her.
"Well?" Makoto asked her. "How are they?"
"I don't know," Usagi admitted. "I've been afraid to look.
I don't want to be disappointed."
"Well, can we look at them? We'll tell you how you did!" Minako
suggested brightly. Usagi shot Minako a grateful look and handed her the
report card.
Ami, Makoto and Minako huddled around Usagi's report card. Minako opened
the report. A startled gasp came from the three girls.
"U...Usagi-chan!" Ami exclaimed. "You have all A's and B's!"
"Really?" Usagi asked, peering over the edge of the card. "I
do! I really do! I get to see Mamo-chan!!" Usagi started dancing around
in glee, hearts in her eyes. The other three girls sighed, large sweat drops
forming on their foreheads.
"Usagi, we have to get to Rei's," the reminded her. Usagi followed
them, still clutching her grades to her chest.
Usagi's mother kept her promise to let Usagi travel to America. Usagi
was greeted at the airport by her four friends. "Usagi-chan!"
Minako exclaimed. "Wait! We're going with you!"
"What?" Usagi asked.
"Minako-chan has relatives in the area of California that you're going
to. She was going to visit them anyway and asked us to come along!"
Makoto explained.
"Won't it be fun, all of us in California?" Minako asked.
"The history..." Ami started.
"The cuisine..." Makoto added.
"The culture..." Rei contributed.
"The surfers!" Minako finished. Makoto seconded Minako's opinion.
"Besides, won't it be fun, all of us in California?" Minako asked.
Usagi smiled.
"You're right, Mina-chan, it will be fun! Let's go!"
Mamoru paced Angel Grove International Airport, waiting for Usagi's
flight to arrive. He vividly remembered the first time he boarded a plane
to America. To calm his worries, he pulled out the picture of Usagi he
always carried with him. He was broken from his reverie by a loud "Mamo-chan!"
and a body flying into him.
"Usako!" he exclaimed, tightening his arms around her. He dipped
his head down and kissed her.
A loud snort and several giggles caused him to look up. Rei, Ami, Makoto
and Minako all stood there watching, Ami blushing furiously, Rei rolling
her eyes, the other two giggling as Minako gave him a thumbs-up sign. He
glared at them, refusing to let them interrupt his reunion with Usagi.
He kissed her a little more firmly, then loosened his grip on her.
"I've missed you, odongo," he murmured, patting her balls of
hair. "Let's get going." He put his arm around Usagi's shoulders
and the two strolled over to where the four girls were. "C'mon, girls,
I'll drive you to Minako's aunt's house in Stone Canyon."
Rocky was ready. He knew that this time, Tommy was going down. "Hyaa!"
he shouted, launching into the move he was sure would take Tommy out.
With a loud thump, Rocky fell on his butt. "I missed?"
he asked Tommy, who was grinning above him. "How'd you do that? I
thought I had you for sure that time!!" he grinned back.
"Hey, ever since Kat and I patched up our differences. I'm not so
easily distracted," Tommy replied as he helped Rocky to his feet.
"What differences? I didn't know you two were having problems."
"Well, they weren't really problems. Just...questions."
"Oh." Rocky decided not to ask any further questions. "Let's
stop for today. My pride's taken one heck of a bruising."
Tommy laughed. "All right, bro."
Kat looked around the juice bar anxiously. Ernie saw her and said, "Tommy
left about ten minutes ago, Kat. If you hurry, you could probably catch
up with him."
"Thanks, Ernie, but I'm looking for Rocky," Kat replied. Ernie
looked at Kat, then went back behind the counter. After a few minutes,
Rocky came out of the locker room. He saw Kat, checked his watch, and made
his way to her table.
"You ready?" he asked.
"Yes, I have the list of ideas in my purse. Let's go." The two
left the youth center, leaving Ernie shaking his head in confusion.
King Mondo looked to Earth. "My dear," he addressed Queen
Machina, "do those girls look somehow familiar to you?" He tuned
the vidscreen to the specified group.
Queen Machina studied the girls. "Hmm, they do bear a passing resemblance
to five of the ancient princesses of this solar system, my love."
King Mondo fiddled with the controls. "Aha! Look, these girls are
filled with the energy of the ancients! Could we have been so preoccupied
with the Power Rangers that we failed to notice the reincarnation
of the Sailor Senshi?"
Unknown to the Machine Empire, an asteroid hovered in the shadow of the moon. On this asteroid, a dark figure watched Earth. "Soon," it hissed, "soon, you shall be mine!!"
Mamoru, Usagi and the others were driving through Angel Grove, taking
in some of the sights. They had stopped at Angel Grove Park to admire the
lake when a noise sounded behind them. Whirling, they saw the strangest
youma they had ever encountered.
"Hail, Senshi!" it cried. "I have come for you in the name
of King Mondo, patriarch of the royal House of Gadgetry!"
The group started at the monster. "Who--what?--are you?" Mamoru
demanded.
"I am Crankshaft, but you may call me..." the monster suddenly
grew fangs, claws, and spikes, "...your doom!" it growled, charging.
The girls scattered. Rei automatically whipped out an ofuda. "Akyrou..."
she flung the charm at Crankshaft, "...taisan!" she finished.
The charm hit the monster's forehead...and fell off.
Crankshaft laughed. "Your puny human charms can't stop me!" it
growled, catching Rei in its iron grasp.
Mamoru started beating on the monster with a fallen branch. "Minna...henshin
yo!" he exclaimed, slipping into Japanese as the monster let go
of Rei.
"Right!" the girls chorused.
"Mercury Crystal Power, make up!" Ami cried.
"Mars Crystal Power, make up!" Rei chanted.
"Jupiter Crystal Power, make up!" Makoto shouted.
"Venus Crystal Power, make up!" Minako called out.
"Moon Eternal Power, make up!" Usagi yelled. In flashes of light
and color, the five sailor-suited soldiers for love and justice were there.
"Angel Grove is a beautiful city!" Sailor Venus exclaimed.
"But creatures like you make the beautiful ugly," Sailor Mercury
added.
"We can't allow you to harm innocent tourists!" Sailor Jupiter
said.
"Your evil will not go unpunished!" Sailor Mars declared.
"I am the pretty sailor-suited soldier for love and justice, Sailor
Moon! In the name of the moon, I'll punish you!" Sailor Moon finished.
Crankshaft looked at the five girls and burst out laughing. "Five
girls in mini-skirts expect to beat me. Well, bring it on!"
he exclaimed, letting out a torrent of shrapnel.
One piece hit Mars in the arm. She screamed in pain, then got a determined
look on her face. "Fire......Soul!" she chanted, flinging a stream
of flames at Crankshaft. It hit the monster's arm, setting it ablaze.
"Venus....Love Me....Chain!!!" Venus followed suit, slicing a
few of the monster's spikes off.
"You will pay dearly for that, little girl," Crankshaft growled.
Again the monster let out a torrent of shrapnel, this time directed solely
at Venus.
Venus screamed in agony as the sharp, hot metal tore her flesh. Blood oozed
from her wounds.
"Venus!" Sailor Moon screamed, running to help her friend. "Are
you all right?"
"Sailor Moon, fight on. I'll be all right," Venus said through
her pain, smiling and giving Sailor Moon the "v-for-victory"
sign.
"Shine Aqua Illusion!" Sailor Mercury called out, releasing a
torrent of water at Crankshaft. The monster was momentarily paralyzed by
the attack, but broke free before anyone could attack further.
"Sparkling....Wide....Pressure!" Sailor Jupiter cried, releasing
a ball of white-hot energy at Crankshaft. The monster caught it and threw
it back at Jupiter who was so stunned, she didn't have time to dodge.
"Ayiiii!" she screamed as Crankshaft followed that attack with
one of his own. A particularly wicked piece of shrapnel embedded itself
in Jupiter's arm.
"You'll pay for this!" Mars exclaimed. "Burning....Mandala!"
Rings of fire sped towards Crankshaft.
"Hah! Child's play!" Crankshaft exclaimed, easily dodging the
fiery attack. "Now try mine!" Again, shrapnel fled towards Mars,
reopening her arm and striking her legs.
Mercury and Moon ran to their fallen comrades. "Fight on!" Mars
insisted, the other two agreeing violently.
The lone two Senshi made their stand. "We can do this, Ami-chan,"
Moon whispered. "We used to do this all the time before we found Rei."
"Usagi-chan, that was years ago," Mercury whispered back. "Still,
it's the only choice we have! You prepare to use your Moon Gorgeous Meditation.
I'll distract him."
Mercury started chanting "Mercury Aqua Rhapsody!" As her attack
shot towards Crankshaft, a figure in a blue bodysuit with a pair of hand
axes struck Crankshaft.
"So, Zeo Ranger III, you've come to join us!" Crankshaft exclaimed.
"That's right!" the figure in blue said.
"Where are your puny Power Ranger friends? Don't you usually have
backup?"
"We're right here!" a strong male voice exclaimed. The Senshi
turned to see five figures in brightly colored bodysuits, each holding
a weapon.
"Well, well, well, good of you to show up. Maybe you'll be more of
a challenge than these puny girlies were!"
Mars tried to struggle to her feet at that. "I'll show you puny! Mars
Flame Sniper!" An arrow of fire pierced through Crankshaft. She collapsed
to the ground, panting from the effort.
The red-suited one held his right fist in front of his star-shaped visor.
A sword materialized in his hand. "C'mon, Crankshaft. We're gonna
send you back to King Mondo--in pieces!"
"Hyaa!" the green-suited one exclaimed as he used his hatchets
on Crankshaft.
"Tommy!" the one in pink said. "We need the Zeo Blaster!"
"Right!" the others chorused. They joined their weapons into
some sort of energy cannon.
"Sailor Moon, let's help them!" Mercury exclaimed.
"Zeo Blaster! Fire!" the Power Rangers exclaimed.
"Mercury Aqua Rhapsody!" Sailor Mercury exclaimed.
"Moon Gorgeous Meditation!" Sailor Moon exclaimed. Three energy
beams wound together and hit Crankshaft simultaneously.
"Nooooo!!" Crankshaft exclaimed as it vanished into dust.
The one in red turned to the Senshi. "You've been hurt," he said.
"We'll get you to a hospital."
"Wait!" Sailor Moon exclaimed. "Where's Mamo-chan?"
"Now," the figure on the asteroid murmured. "Now, Earth shall be mine! I have her prince in my grasp. Soon, the Moon Princess will come looking for him. Then, I shall have my revenge!!"
