Author's Note: This fic was written early in season two, with just the picture of the White Ranger toy in the Sears WishBook as inspiration. I didn't know about the "peace conference," Rocky, Adam, and Aisha, or what-have-you from season three. The prologue was written after White Light aired, to make this a touch more "in continuity." After A Friend in Need and Ninja Quest (I think?), we relegated Rocky, Adam and Aisha to "alternate Rangers," with new Zords and reversed outfits (white Lycra, colored diamonds).
Nearly a year had passed with Tommy as White Ranger when Zordon
called, interrupting an ultimate Frisbee game on Angel Grove Beach.
"Rangers, you must come to the command center immediately. I'm afraid I
have some bad news." The six Rangers looked at each other, then teleported
to the command center.
Kimberly glanced at Tommy, who was rubbing his wrist, and
reached over to link his fingers with hers. His eyes traveled from her
hand to her face, and she gave him a small, reassuring smile. Jason kept
shifting his weight from side to side as Billy touched the buttons on his
communicator, left, right, top, bottom. Zack's gaze kept flitting from
Zordon, to an unusually still Alpha 5, to Tommy, and back again. Only
Trini stood perfectly calm, awaiting Zordon's announcement.
Finally, Zordon broke the tense silence. "Tommy, when we
gave you your White Ranger powers, apparently we were unsuccessful in cleansing
you of all Green Ranger residue. The Green Ranger energy in your body has
rejected the White Ranger energy. In three days, you will no longer be the White Ranger."
"What? That's not fair!" Kimberly cried.
"It's like we just got him back, and now you're telling us he has to leave
again?"
"It'll be okay, Kim." Tommy said, looking up at
their mentor, a small worry line appearing on his young forehead.
"Even if I'm not a Ranger anymore, I'll still be here for you."
"I do have some good news, however, Kimberly. Tommy's interaction with
the White Ranger
powers has restored the Green Ranger powers for the time. While in three
days you will no longer be the White Ranger, you will once again be the
Green Ranger," Zordon told him.
"Tommy's power loss is not our
only problem. We will soon have a morpher and a Zord without an owner. The longer they sit without a
host, the
more dangerous they become. If they are idle for too long, they could destroy
the morphing grid. Return to Angel Grove for now, Rangers. I will find a
solution to both problems."
The Rangers transported back to Angel Grove.
Two Weeks Later
In Billy's garage, the Rangers were talking. "I don't want you to
leave again," Kimberly told Tommy.
"Kim, I've already become the Green Ranger again, and I can feel the
power leaving me again. I'm already at half-strength, and it's only been
a week."
"I'm sure Zordon will find a way to keep you with us, Tommy,"
Jason said, putting a hand on Tommy's shoulder.
"I hope so."
"Well, school tomorrow. Maybe that'll take your mind off your problems."
"Again, I hope so.”
