Kimberly gazed out the window of Mrs. Campbell's
Oldsmobile. They were on their way to the airport. Kimberly was leaving
for Miami today.
It's too bad the others couldn't come along,
she mused. But, of course, Zedd and Rita had to send a monster. I don't
even get to say goodbye to Tommy. She touched the locket around her
neck. Tommy had given it to her the night before, to remember, he had said.
Like
I could ever forget him.
Kimberly firmly believed that there was one person
out there for everyone, one person who was your true soul mate. In her
mind, that person was Tommy. They had just clicked from the instant they
met. They had weathered rough times and had suffered much more than any
normal teenage couple would ever dream of suffering through. Kim had thought
long and hard about leaving before making up her mind to do so. Tommy
and I are solid. A few months apart won't hurt us, and when we're back
together, we'll be stronger than ever, she thought.
Even knowing that, she was still worried. Katherine
Hilliard, her replacement as Pink Ranger, had shown interest in taking
over some of Kim's other responsibilities. It was no secret that she liked
Tommy. Kim just hoped that the feeling wasn't mutual. I don't
trust her, she thought. I mean, I know she'll do a good job as a
Ranger to make up for the pain she caused, but when it comes to Tommy....
I trust him completely, but I don't trust that blonde Amazon.
She took off her locket and held it in the palm
of her hand. It was a beautiful, romantic present, and probably a lot more
than Tommy could afford. The necklace had three strands of pearls held
together with gold and pink beads, and the locket itself was heart shaped
gold, a cut pink and gold stone affixed to the top half of the locket.
Inside, the right half had a picture of the both of them. On the left,
there was an inscription. It read: I love you, Kimberly, now and always.
Tommy.
Kim refastened the locket around her neck. I'll
never take this off, she thought. Never.
However, an old wives' tale wouldn't leave her mind:
A
man who gives you pearls will always make you cry...
Shut up and drive...
You don't know what you're talking about.
He's not the one, you think that you'd know that by now.
You've got one of those hearts that keeps changing your mind.
Your heart has a way of making you stay,
So shut up and drive.
