Chapter Seven: Betrayals

    "Where's Jason?" Christina asked.
"In the stasis field," Zordon replied. Sure enough, Jason was floating in the field not far away.
    "How badly was he hurt?"
"Quite badly. I do not know if you will be able to heal him at this point in your cycle."
    "Let me try."
"When the stasis field is released, Billy, you must catch him." Billy moved into position and Zordon deactivated the field. Billy caught Jason, lowered him to the floor, and ran a scanner over his still form.
"He's suffering from intense internal damages and I think he has a bit of mental damage. I hope you can heal him," Billy said, looking at Christina.
"I'll do my best." She dropped to her knees beside Jason and dug in her pocket. She drew out the psychic amplifier Billy had made and put it on. "I hope this works." She placed her hands gently on Jason's head. She concentrated and a glow slowly filled him. She kept this up for a long time. Billy kept a constant check on Jason's vital signs.
"Christina! He's coming around!" Billy exclaimed. She opened her eyes and saw Jason awakening.
"How is he?" she asked Billy.
    "Almost totally healed," he replied.
"What happened?" Jason struggled to sit up. "Jamie blasted you with Zedd's staff, and Christina healed you. If it hadn't been for her, and Zordon's placing you in a stasis field, you wouldn't be here now," Billy explained to him.
"I guess I owe you my life. Thanks." Jason hugged Christina lightly.
"I couldn't let you die. You're important to everyone." A light blush stained Christina's cheeks. Billy came over, and put his arm around Christina. She laced her fingers with his and leaned against him.
"Sometimes I envy you, Billy. Your girlfriend doesn't get kidnapped by her father and turned against you every other day," Jason said, a little bitterly.
"Jason, we are going to free Jamie. You'll see," Christina reassured him.
    "I sure hope so."

"The White Ranger has escaped!" Zedd fumed. "Why did you let her get away?" he screamed at Squatt and Baboo. "It is of no consequence. I have my staff and my daughter, and soon, Earth will be mine!"
"What do you have planned, Father?" Jamie asked.
"The White Ranger has a large specimen of coral - brain coral. I shall create my greatest monster ever - the Brainiacoral!"
    "What does it do?"
"It is immensely hard and extremely intelligent. The Power Rangers will be destroyed. You shall help by luring away the Red Ranger. Make them think that you have escaped, and are on their side. As you said before, their trust will be their downfall!"
"Yes, father! Will you create the Brainiacoral soon?"
"Yes, and you must go. The Red Ranger will be weak. This shall be an easy victory!" He pointed his staff at Earth. A large rumbling ensued. The coral grew in size and took humanoid form.
"Ah, to be or not to be! I choose to be!" Brainiacoral cried, and headed for the fields.

In the command center, the alarm went off. "Rangers, Lord Zedd has released his newest monster," Zordon informed them. "Christina, contact the others."
"Will do," she said. In a moment, the others arrived.
"Observe the viewing globe," Zordon instructed. The Rangers saw the monster rampaging in the field.
"That looks like my brain coral!" Christina exclaimed.
"That is the Brainiacoral. It was created out of Christina's coral. You must be wary of it. It will attempt to confuse you with quotes and destroy you with its rock-like hands. Take great caution, Rangers. The energy drained from Christina while she was captured was transferred to Brainiacoral. This is Lord Zedd's strongest creature yet."
"It's morphin time!" Jason called. They morphed, and transported to the plain.
"Ah-ha! I see Power Rangers! Puny, insignificant little things!" Brainiacoral called.
"Let's see how he likes dagger blows!" Yellow Ranger called. She ran towards Brainiacoral, Power Daggers extended.
"Is this a dagger I see before me?" Brainiacoral caught Yellow Ranger and threw her across the field. "I think not!"
"This guy means business!" Red Ranger exclaimed.
"I'm going to give him a taste of Power Arrows!" Pink Ranger cried. She leapt into the air and fired off several rounds of arrows. Brainiacoral caught every arrow.
"Is it nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of minuscule Power Rangers?" He broke the arrows with a loud snap. "Not this time!"
"We're in trouble!" Black Ranger exclaimed.
"I just wish I was at full cycle. Then, I could just mind-blast him!" White Ranger said.
"Can you still send psychic bolts?" Green Ranger asked.
"Yes, but much weaker. They won't be as effective as they were on Phantasm. I was at full cycle then and I'm a week away from that now."
"The bolts may distract it. Jason, you guys form the Power Blaster while Christina's using her bolts," Green Ranger instructed.
"Tommy, that's a great idea! Christina, do you think you can do it?" Red Ranger asked her.
"I'll do my best." She left the group and started gathering her energy. She sent a bolt of pure white directly at Brainiacoral.
"Hah! You'll have to do better than that!" Brainiacoral danced around.
White Ranger continued firing while the others called out: "Power Ax!" "Power Bow!" "Power Daggers!" "Power Lance!" "Power Sword!"
"Now!" White Ranger called out. The five original Rangers stepped into position and fired the Power Blaster. When the dust cleared, Brainiacoral was standing unfazed.
"I am the noblest Roman of them all!" he hooted, and galloped away.
"Man! Now what?" Black Ranger asked. "If he can withstand the Power Blaster, do you think he can be destroyed at all?"
"It must have a weak spot," Blue Ranger said. Suddenly, they heard a noise behind them.
"Jamie!" Red Ranger called. All the Rangers took defensive positions.
"Wait! It's okay! I escaped, I'm not under his spell anymore," Jamie protested.
    "She's lying," White Ranger whispered.
"How do you know?" Blue Ranger asked her.
"I don't know, I just do. Don't trust her, Jason."
Red Ranger shook his head. "Christina, check her for spells," Red Ranger instructed. White Ranger removed her gloves and walked towards Jamie.
"You do understand, we have to do this. Give me your hand," White Ranger instructed. Jamie hesitated, then complied. White Ranger screamed and fainted. Red Ranger and Blue Ranger ran to help White Ranger. Jamie grabbed Red Ranger and vanished.
"Jamie! Where are you?" Jason called into the darkness. When she had grabbed him, he had been forced to demorph. Jamie had brought him to this place and disappeared. Light flooded the area. Jason recognized where he was. "The Dimension of Doom," he muttered.
"I see you recognize your accommodations. I'm glad, for you're going to be here for quite a while." Jamie materialized in front of him. "My father wanted me to destroy you, but I couldn't, so I brought you here."
"Jamie, why are you doing this?"
"My father bade me. Be glad this is all that is being done to you. I could have finished you off when I first blasted you with the staff."
"But you didn't. Jamie, you are under a spell. You can break it. I know it's weakening, or you would have killed me earlier. Look deep inside you, and you can break free. You don't have to be a slave to Zed's wishes." He reached out a hand to her. He could see her control weakening. "Please, Jamie, we need you. I need you."
She clenched her eyes shut, a single tear falling from them. A red mist fell away from her, and when she opened her eyes, they were clear, without a trace of the red gleam that had been there. "Let's get out of here," she said.
